10.30am to 12.30pm – Classic V. Shaabi – two sides of the same song
Level: Ambitious Improvers, Intermediate, Advanced students & Professionals

  • Love Egyptian music and want to deepen your knowledge?
  • Ready to expand your Egyptian dance repertoire?
  • Need to crystallise your understanding of classic oriental and modern shaabi dance styles?
  • Want the confidence to know exactly just how to adapt your dance to both types of song?
  • Fancy a bellydance party with one of the UK’s most entertaining professionals?

Classic V Shaabi - two sides to the same song
Take one famous Egyptian song: ”Ala Rimshi Eyouna” and dance to two very different versions of it.  We’ll start with a classic style choreography and then we do it in fun shaabi style. Great workshop for understanding the difference between oriental and shaabi music and bellydance styles.  Get ready to benefit from Candi’s expert insight as she opens up her treasure trove of extensive and most respected dance and music knowledge just for you.  All that and more with irresistible enjoyment guaranteed!

“Who better to learn Shaabi from than the super sassy and Cairo streetwise Candi Bell?  Learn technique, master that sassy style and learn about the culture of your favourite dance style, all in one workshop!” Feyruz Warda, Professional Bellydancer, Guildford

“Candi's classic v. shaabi was the first workshop I signed up for at last year’s Majma Bellydance Festival.  I decided as soon as I saw the description of the content that I wanted to do it. If anyone struggles with choreography and wonders if they are interpreting a piece of music correctly then this is a workshop for them. It demonstrates that quite often there is more than one way to approach a piece and that there isn't a wrong way. I connected with Candi as a teacher straight away; she was very approachable.  She made gentle fun of herself, but has a very professional teaching style. I would recommend this workshop. It's a two for the price of one offer!” Karen Double, RBSB Teacher Training Graduate, RBSB ‘Stars of the Orient’ Troupe Member and RBSB Wokingham ‘Angels of the Orient’ Advanced Bellydance Student.

Bonus Gift:  Receive a complimentary student toolkit on all aspects of Shaabi and Classical oriental music to support your ongoing dance development & practice.

Price: Early bird discount until 30 June 2018 - £28.00.  £35.00 thereafter.  Places are non-refundable and non-transferable regardless of student circumstances e.g. holiday, pregnancy or illness, and adverse weather conditions. 1pm to 3pm – Shamadan (Candelabra) & El Zeffa (Wedding Procession Dance)
Light up the stage and master this glorious prop with one of the UK’s leading Shamadan experts: Candi Bell!
Level: Ambitious Improvers, Intermediate, Advanced students and Professionals

  • Have you ever wondered what it would be like to bellydance with a candelabra (AKA Shamadan) on your head?  (Don’t worry; no flames will be used in this workshop!)
  • Want to borrow a FREE candelabra from Candi to use exclusively at the workshop on the day?
  • Do you have a shamadan at home just waiting to be lit up and begging for a boogie?
  • Ready to get the party started and lead an Egyptian-style “Zeffa” wedding procession?
  • Would you like to feel technically challenged in a bright new bellydance way?

Make a great bellydance party piece!  Learn how and when to use this impressive prop, lead a wedding procession and have a go at dancing with Shamadan whilst playing optional finger cymbals. (Don't worry about the finger cymbals bit in this workshop - it is optional and even suitable for people who have never played before.  Just bring along a pair on the day if you’re up for the challenge.)  Allergic to finger cymbals?  Never fear; you can play invisible ones or omit them entirely!

A popular and much loved performer and teacher, Candi will reveal her Shamadan success essentials!  She’s an experienced, warm-hearted and irresistibly friendly national and international bellydance professional and we’re so lucky to welcome her to Berkshire as part of her 2018 UK tour.  She’ll give you key insight into what music to use and how to craft your own Shamadan dance. (Candi will bring shamadans for bellydancers to borrow, or you can bring your own candelabra.)

Bonus Gifts: Receive a Complimentary Shamadan Student Toolkit from Candi Bell to support your ongoing dance development
